11:30:00 AM The Tan Zhiyi is a man post. Went with the boy to Fish & Co for dinner last weekend at the branch at Marina Square. Seafood platter for two has never disappoint me at all. It is still that superb and we were both satisfied. The table next to us who is a malay couple ordered the seafood platter too. So both our table and theirs had a sumptuous platter feast. The malay couple decided to call for menu and order dessert whereas we decided to call for our bill. So the order for the dessert was made and i handed the waitress my card to settle the bill. So the boy and i waited patiently. Another waitress came with the bill and instead of coming to our table, she went to the table next to us which is the table of the malay couple and called out:"Mr Tan, your bill." The malay couple was shocked as they've clearly ordered for dessert not ask for bill. And so i have to raise my hand up a little and said that it's my card. The waitress walked over to our table and said:"Mr Tan, your bill." Gosh.... this is the first ever time that I've to amend a waitress and say it is Ms Tan not Mr Tan. The waitress just smile and said:" Oh !!! It's Ms Tan. Not Mr Tan." What a joke that sends the The malay couple next to us giggling and the boy and i dumbfounded. It is obviously impossible for Malays to have a chinese surname and it is probably time to question whether I've a manly name. The Tan Zhiyi is a Malay post It has almost become a norm for people to mistake me as a malay. I've long gotten use to it but it still seems to get on my nerve sometimes. I went to get newspaper and magazine from the magazine booth outside Sunplaza last Wednesday. Picked the newspaper and magazine that i wanted so i went to the cashier to pay. The lady said in Chinese:"$5.10." I started digging in my purse for coins. Just then the lady said sorry to me and said:" You cant understand Chinese." and she said $5.10 in English again. First ever time again that someone said sorry to me thinking i cant understand Chinese. So then clarification has to be made and the lady was surprised to know that I'm actually a Chinese. What a joke. So the conclusion is i should probably find myself a malay name that is suitable for lady and not sound manly. |
